Who We Are

Americans United for Separation of Church and State
Sarasota - Manatee Chapter 57

Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) has been leading the fight since 1947 to retain our religious freedom without government interference in a democratic and pluralistic society. It was formed by a coalition of leaders from religious, educational and public policy communities.

Our chapter was organized in January 2001 in the face of attacks on the separation of church and state that is guaranteed in both the U.S. and Florida constitutions. We now are over 300 members strong.

What We Do

Our Mission - Protect our religious freedom and keep church and state separate in accordance with the US and Florida Constitutions. Although most Americans believe in the separation of church and state, it is under threat as never before. Powerful religious leaders and misguided politicians have joined forces to undercut this all-important First Amendment freedom.

We are one chapter of a national organization which maintains cooperative arrangements with practicing attorneys in all 50 states.

For more information you may call our chapter President, Richard Cannarelli at 941-966-4631.
